About Ms. Moore

Gina Moore (she/her/hers) is a freelance bassoonist, educator, and diversity advocate. She currently serves as a Double Reeds Private Instructor in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area where she specializes in working with minority students. As a passionate pedagogue and champion for social change in the music world, Ms. Moore explores decolonization in western music at lectures and masterclasses in the bassoon world. Venues included the 2021 Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition and Symposium, 2021 International Double Reed Society Virtual Symposium, and 2021 Bassoons Without Borders. Throughout her bassoon education, Ms. Moore championed underrepresented composers and students with lower socioeconomic privilege by creating impactful music-making experiences through various musical mediums. During her undergraduate career at James Madison University, Ms. Moore serviced the Harrisonburg, VA community through the creation of JMUke, a community music making group that provided ukulele learning and performance experiences on 3D printed instruments. For students seeking bassoon specific music making opportunities, Ms. Moore ran The Moore Bassoon Studio, an outreach studio that provided lessons and resources to bassoonists of all ages on a sliding scale basis. Students engaged in both music performance and production experiences.

Ms. Moore’s passion for community engagement and outreach continued in her Masters career in Lawrence, KS. Under the supervision of Dr. Eric Stomberg, Ms. Moore worked with The Boys and Girls Club and Lawrence Public Schools USD 497 to create a chamber music concert series that allowed students to engage in interactive chamber music concerts throughout the spring semester.  Work with the program included observations of groups, peer-to-peer feedback on particular activities, and facilitating scheduling throughout the semester with both students and faculty of both KU and The Boys and Girls Club.

To further improve her work as a diversity advocate and clinician, Ms. Moore participated in the Music and Munchies program associated with the Bayview Music Festival in 2019. She worked with the Bayview Wind Quintet faculty to create music-based programs for students and parents of all ages. Projects included narrative storytelling,non-traditional music programming (e.g. hip-hop beat making and ensemble roles), and traditional woodwind quintet performances on site and at local community centers in Petoskey, MI.

Ms. Moore received the Master of Music degree at the University of Kansas and the Bachelor of Music in Music Education at James Madison University (all earned with honors). Her major teachers include Dr. Eric Stomberg, Jill Marderness, and Dr. Susan Barber.
